Maritzburg College and KES lead the pack
29/03/2010
KES made it two out of two with a crushing victory over the Titans’ Hoërskool Menlo Park in the local derby. Menlo Park’s strong bowling line-up which includes SA U19 bowler Sammy Mofokeng limited KES to 129/7 in 20 overs. Menlo Park were bowled out for 114 in the 17th over, a disappointing return after their brilliant performance in their opening match against Wynberg Boys High School. Quinton de Kock was named as man of the match for his knock of 65.
Earlier KES also made light work of Northern Cape High School from Kimberly, winning the match by seven wickets. Paul de Chaud was deservedly named man of the match for his unbeaten 44. The Eagles side scored 130/5, an innings that was well anchored by Diego Rosier who struck 51 not out but it proved to be insufficient as the KES batsmen went about the run chase clinically.
Pool B leaders, Maritzburg College, proved their expertise with both bat and ball when they beat Woodridge College and Wynberg Boys High School in their fixtures for the day. It was their bowlers that led the rampage against Woodridge College in a low scoring match in the morning, which they won by six wickets. Woodridge College were restricted to 94/9 in their 20 overs, with Calvin Savage earning the man of the match award for his four wickets. Maritzburg reached the target in the 15th over, and also picked up the vital bonus point despite losing four wickets.
In their second match, Jaryd Walsh (38) and Kewan Harries (53) put together an opening partnership of 85 to steer the Dolphins side to the winning total of 131 set by Wynberg. Harries was named as the man of the match, after his innings of 53 off 59 balls led Colleges to the seven wicket victory with two balls to spare.
