Chevrolet Warriors

If the Chevrolet Warriors are allowed to make use of their national squad members during the Standard Bank Pro20, expect the Eastern Cape franchise to provide one or two upsets during this season's competition after a disappointing campaign last year when they finished bottom of the log.

Fast bowler Makhaya Ntini, all-rounder Jacques Kallis, wicketkeeper Mark Boucher and middle-order batsman Ashwell Prince are four players that would strengthen any team in the world. Add spinners Johan Botha and Robin Peterson into the mix and it is plain to see that the Warriors have the makings of a very good side.

In addition, the Warriors may also be able to call on the services of left-arm swing bowlers Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Wayne Parnell, two young cricketers that have recently been called up to the South African limited overs national squad.

The Warriors' batting is strengthened by the two Jacobs, Arno and Davey, while Jon-Jon Smuts is a young opening batsman who is quietly going about building himself a reputation as a fine cricketer.

Rusty Theron, a promising young fast bowler, is someone that the Warriors' opponents will also need to keep a close eye on as he has the ability to take wickets at crucial times.

Coach speak-Russell Domingo
Domingo is a local lad in charge of his home team and, if national call-ups do not interfere too much, he is in charge of a very talented team indeed. If he is forced to rely on youngsters, Domingo also has a good pedigree of working with young cricketers after taking the SA U19 team to their World Cup in 2004.

"We didn't have a good season last year, but we are confident going into this campaign. We have good depth in our squad of 16, with young players who are good enough to step in if we have players on international duty.  Our bowling is our strength as we have a lot of variation in our attack with left-arm seamers and a variety of spinners, including Robin Peterson."
